Bedömning - Är M4 tillräckligt?

Till skillnad från M3-generationen är uppgraderingen till Pro-processorn i M4-generationen betydligt mindre. De flesta användare bör förmodligen få tillräcklig prestanda redan med basmodellen MacBook Pro med M4. När det gäller CPU-prestanda placerar sig den lilla M4 Pro med 12 kärnor lätt mellan M4 och M4 Pro med 14 kärnor. De största skillnaderna finns i 3D-prestandan. Men eftersom spel tyvärr fortfarande spelar en ganska liten roll med Mac, kan detta vara mindre relevant för många användare.

Oberoende av version fortsätter MacBook Pro 14 att vara en utmärkt bärbar dator. Särskilt den nya skärmen med nanotextur är mycket attraktiv och gör det också möjligt att använda den utomhus med sin höga ljusstyrka. Den tysta kylningen är ett klart plus, särskilt i tysta omgivningar, men detta har varit "typiskt" för Apple igen sedan Apple M1.

Vår testenhet innehåller två uppgraderingar: nano-texturskärmen för ytterligare $ 150 och 1 TB SSD-lagring för $ 200, vilket resulterar i en rejäl $ 2,349. På Amazon börjar MBP14 med M4 Pro från $ 1 799.

Som tyvärr är brukligt med Apple visar sig alla uppgraderingar till huvudlagring, SSD och processor vara mycket dyra.

Vi köpte vår testenhet för redaktionen i Apple -butiken när den släpptes. Vi bestämde oss för den mindre versionen av MacBook Pro 14 med den 12-kärniga M4 Pro-processorn men lade också pengar på två uppgraderingar till vår modell: Lagringsutrymmet utökades från 512 GB till 1 TB och naturligtvis var vi också tvungna att skaffa den nya matta skärmen med nanotextur.

Till skillnad från basmodellen med M4-processor behöver du inte göra några kompromisser när det gäller utrustningen i instegsmodellen M4 Pro. MacBook har också stöd för Thunderbolt 5 (upp till 120 Gbit/s), och M4 Max-modellerna kan stödja fler än två externa skärmar.

Prestanda

Instegsmodellen för M4 Pro innehåller redan 24 GB RAM. Eftersom Apple använder "enhetligt minne" kan GPU komma åt all denna lagring.

Testförhållanden

MacBook Pro 14 med den nuvarande macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 erbjuder tre alternativ i menyn Batteri i inställningarna: Låg effekt, Automatisk och Hög effekt. I våra tester hade detta inte mycket inflytande på riktmärkena, så vi körde de flesta tester i "Automatiskt" läge.

Processor - Även den bantade versionen av M4 Pro är övertygande

Den bantade M4 Pro har totalt 12 av de 14 CPU-kärnorna, fördelade på 8 snabba Performance-kärnor och 4 mindre Efficiency-kärnor. Klockhastigheterna är identiska med dem i de mer kraftfulla modellerna, inklusive M4 Max. Efficiency-kärnorna når klockhastigheter upp till 2,59 GHz och Performance-kärnorna upp till 4,51 GHz. Endast M4 erbjuder något annorlunda klockhastigheter.

Som förväntat finns det knappast några skillnader i prestanda för en enda kärna mellan M4, M4 Pro och till och med M4 Max. Jämfört med M3-generationen finns det respektabla vinster på 18 till 19%, beroende på riktmärke. Konkurrenterna från Intel, AMD och Qualcomm är nu klart överträffade. I Cinebench 2024 är X1E-84-100 och i9-14900HX båda 25% långsammare. Medan skillnaderna är mindre uttalade i den äldre CB R23, ligger en enda M4-kärna fortfarande något före 14900HX och Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.

Det är först när alla kärnor är fulladdade som vi ser några tydliga skillnader mellan M4-versionerna i MacBook Pro. På grund av avsaknaden av P-kärnor är basversionen av M4 cirka 30 % långsammare, och den fullständiga versionen av M4 Pro är 18 % snabbare. I jämförelsen med Intel och AMD kan M4 Pro inte ta en plats på vinnarpallen. En 14900HX med tillräcklig TDP och kylning kan tydligt gå framåt, men den kan också vara mycket långsammare om den är inrymd i ett slimmat fodral. Ryzen 9 7945HX förblir mästare och kan bara överträffas av M4 Max (Cinebench 2024). Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 och även Snapdragon X Elite-chip placerar sig bakom M4 Pro.

M4 Pro kan inte behålla sin prestanda helt oförändrad, inte ens i läget "High Power". Detta är lite förvånande, eftersom den kraftfullare versionen i samma fall ligger på en betydligt högre prestandanivå. I vårt Cinebench R15-test förlorar CPU:n cirka 11% av sin prestanda, med de största nedgångarna efter de två första körningarna.

I batteridrift förblir full CPU-prestanda tillgänglig upp till cirka 4% av laddningen, vilket är en fördel som inte erbjuds av många Windows-konkurrenter.

Grafikkort - Tydligt reducerat men fortfarande mycket snabbt

Det integrerade grafikkortet i instegsmodellen M4 Pro har också minskats med flera kärnor och erbjuder nu bara 16 av de 20 kärnorna i chippet. Lagringsbandbredden spelar också en mer betydande roll, vilket resulterar i mycket större skillnader mellan de olika M4-versionerna. Med sin 10-kärniga GPU uppnår M4-basmodellen endast 58% i GFXBench Aztec Ruins High 4k, och 20-kärnversionen kan gå framåt med 22%. M4 Max, som erbjuder respektabla 40 kärnor, kan höja sig till en annan liga med cirka 225%.

I jämförelsen med föregångarna är prestandan jämförbar med den för den 18-kärniga M3 Pro-modellen. I GFXBench är bärbara Windows-datorer med en snabbare iGPU, t.ex AMD Radeon 780M eller Intel Arc 8-kärnig tydligt bakom. Spelprestanda - MacOS kan inte utnyttja prestandan

Det är ingen skillnad mellan instegsprocessorn M4 Pro och den mer kraftfulla modellen (se för detaljer) när det gäller ljudnivåer. Fläktarna förblir mestadels avstängda, och även under längre belastning prioriterar Apple en tyst drift och låter komponenterna bli varma.

Strömförbrukning - Efficient M4 Pro

När det gäller strömförbrukning placerar sig instegsmodellen M4 Pro som väntat mellan M4 och M4 Pro, och håller sig inom liknande intervall som föregångsmodellen. MacBooks klarar sig alltid mycket bra i klassjämförelsen, och särskilt den lägsta förbrukningen är enastående.

Battery Live - Behöver du verkligen mer?

När det gäller batteritid ser vi ingen skillnad mot den mer kraftfulla M4 Pro med 14 kärnor. Å andra sidan erbjuder basmodellen M4 en något längre batteritid vid reducerad ljusstyrka, som annonserat. Med reducerad belastning bör dock batteritiden definitivt vara tillräcklig för en hel dags arbete.
